The Artist's Retreat

The Artist’s Retreat is an idiosyncratic gem.

So-called in homage to 18th Century Romantic artist Thomas Gainsborough who fondly featured the land of The Lost Garden Retreat in one of his paintings entitled ‘Heneage Lloyd and his sister, Lucy’ c.1750.

The interiors shine with yellow accenting, mirroring the golden leaves depicted in Gainsborough’s paintings of Autumn ‘the painter’s season’.

Relax in the swinging love seat and take in the exquisite, tranquil landscape; this is the perfect place to surrender to your creative side.

Inside each open-plan tent you’ll find all the modern day essentials along with a few of life’s little luxuries including vintage books, nostalgic board games and a few unearthed and repurposed curiosities.

Some extra luxuries
A mini welcome hamper with a bottle of wine & nibbles, Plum & Ashby shampoo, conditioner, hand & body wash in the bathroom. Also included in your stay are sufficient logs which comes with a complimentary starter pack – one box of eco firelighters, one bag of kindling and one bag of charcoal to keep you going and you may purchase more of these on site at our Honesty Shop so no need to add these to your supermarket shop! (This is for the wood burners, fire pits and eco-tubs. We do not allow these items to be brought in from outside of the glampsite).

A corner of the Artist's Retreat shows a plant on top of a custom made set of drawers. A pretty mirror hangs on the wooden panelled wall above the drawers.
An old painting latter covered in splattered paint, and with chipping wood has a plant draping over it on the top step.

Each tent sleeps up to 6 adults: a double room with a king size bed and a room with a bunkbed (the bunks sleep adults too!) and a cabin bed (also king size) for those curious little travellers. All our beds are wonderfully comfortable with fresh soft cotton sheets & a warm duvet cover.

Your sleep is important to us!

Each tent has a luxurious en-suite bathroom with underfloor heating, heated towel rails, a walk-in shower and a lovingly hand-painted bathtub. The bathroom is within the tent so there’s no fear of getting cold feet when heading to the bathroom in the night!

A large wooden table that seats 6 is decorated with a milk vase and flowers

Outside each tent is your very own private decked area looking onto the wildlife lake. It’s a wonderful place for togetherness and relaxation.

The decks feature:

  • Scandinavian wooden eco-tub
  • Picnic table and benches
  • Barbeque
  • Hearty fire pit with seating made from the timber in the wood itself
  • In between the lakes you will find our very own meditation stumps cut by our woodsman that peers over the lake and is perfect for early risers or dusk dwellers
