The Homewood
Known as The Homewood, our retreat is set within an ancient forest. Originally designed in the 18th Century by the Lloyd sisters as an arboretum, it is truly a thing of wonder and a joy for dendrophiles. From Wellingtonians to Weeping Willows, Mexican to Monterey Pine and Sequoias to Silver Birch – the woodland offers a plethora of exotic tree species and is bursting with vitality.
“Our wildlife lake is a nature-lovers dream, best observed at dusk from the chairs on the veranda.”
Wake up to the melody of the resident songbirds housed in these trees and keep an eye out for a chance sighting of various winged, furry or feathered visitors including dragonflies, kingfishers, mallards, woodpeckers and some rather pesky otters! Our wildlife lake is a nature-lovers dream, best observed at dusk from the chairs on the veranda. The luckiest among you may even spot a roe deer or tentative muntjac.
The seasons come and go in splendour here: each Autumn the woods are an ombre of ochre and gold, and in warmer months the gardens are lit up by rhapsody of purple rhododendrons.
